DJI Flip's First Flight at the University of Macau

Mar 4, 2025

Today, the maiden flight test of the DJI Flip was successfully completed at the University of Macau. Prior to this, the necessary registration was completed in accordance with Macau regulations, and flight and filming were conducted within the campus. Additionally, the DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI Mavic 3T were experienced in the laboratory setting.

The Maiden Flight of DJI Flip

The campus of the University of Macau provides an ideal environment for drone operations, offering both expansive open spaces and a diverse array of architectural and natural landscapes. Today's weather was perfect for flying, with clear skies and moderate winds. I selected a secure launch site for my DJI Flip, ready to embark on its inaugural flight.

Upon takeoff, the Flip demonstrated remarkable stability and responsive handling. I executed fundamental maneuvers such as hovering, orbiting, and gentle translational movements, all while capturing aerial views of the campus. The Macau skyline, visible from across the water, presented a particularly striking vista from the drone's elevated perspective.

Experience the DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI Mavic 3T

After successfully completing the flight test of the Flip drone, I proceeded to test the DJI Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3T available in the laboratory. Since these two devices have not yet completed the necessary registration procedures, we could only conduct preliminary functional tests indoors. Notably, the Mavic 3T stood out for its exceptional performance, particularly its integrated thermal imaging camera system, which offers promising applications in detecting building facade defects and identifying energy leaks. These potential use cases represent key areas of focus for future research in the laboratory.
